The Panther Fund was established in 2010 by five parents, with kids in West Ottawa Public Schools, who believed that all students should have the opportunity to participate in athletics, regardless of financial resources. 

Having kids of their own, the founding members were seeing first-hand how participation exposed them to diverse experiences, challenges and individuals and the opportunity to learn important life skills, such as how to work as a team to accomplish more than what was possible on their own. They also knew a number of kids that desired to participate but the financial requirements were beyond what was possible for them and their family.

Working in conjunction with the Athletic Boosters, The Panther Fund provided financial assistance to the students who could not afford the startup costs associated with athletics. As a result, there was increased participation in high school sports. The success of this endeavor prompted The Panther Fund to become an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in June 2015. 

The founders firmly believe that participation in sports helps kids grow and develop into healthier and more responsible, resourceful and productive adults. They believe that every student deserves a chance to explore their interests and challenge themselves in new ways. School enrichment programs are designed to do just that and beginning Fall of 2015, The Panther Fund has expanded its reach to include art, music, theater and academic programs within the middle schools and high school by providing financial assistance to students who qualify.
